Abstract

This critical appraisal overviews the strengths and weaknesses of the research article: Early mobilization and recovery in mechanically ventilated patients in the ICU: a bi-national, multi-centre, prospective cohort study. The manner of how the research was conducted, what literature was used to back it up, and the methods of the research are appraised. The clinical appraisal of research found that the research was conducted in a professional manner and was relevant clinically in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting. The strengths and weaknesses of early mobilization are addressed in the results section. Finding out if the intervention of early mobilization for the research was valid and could be used in the future to allow for better patient outcomes such as avoiding Intensive Care Unit Acquired Weakness (ICUAW), earlier dismissal from the hospital, etc. is the aim of this critical appraisal to further research in this field.
