dc.description.abstract | Ron Springer was born in Seminole, Texas, and raised in San Angelo, Texas. He attended Central High School in San Angelo and began his studies at Angelo State University in 1969. After two and a half years, he was drafted into the Vietnam War. In this interview, Springer discusses his role in the Army's 223rd Aviation Battalion. He completed his training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and was eventually stationed in Germany. As a proud American, Springer devoted much of his time as a driver for the Sergeant Major. His exemplary service earned him a certificate for sixty thousand accident-free miles while driving in Germany. This achievement allowed him to explore the country beyond his official duties, interact with German civilians, learn the German language, and operate various vehicles, including sedans, vans, jeeps, and the commonly seen deuce and a half. | |
