Abstract

The following paper is a critical appraisal of the article "Effectiveness of Inclusion of Dry Needling in a Multimodal Therapy Program for Patellofemoral Pain: A Randomized Parallel-Group Trial", which also answers a clinical question regarding the use of dry needling on pain and muscle strength in patients with patellofemoral pain. A search was conducted using EBSCOhost and the article was found and chosen among various results. Sections of the article such as the introduction, methods, results, and discussion are described with their strengths and weaknesses of each addressed. Ultimately the study shows that inclusion of dry needling into a therapeutic program did not result in better outcomes for pain and disability in those with patellofemoral pain than a therapeutic program alone. The analysis of research articles such as the one described will give clinicians evidence on picking effective, safe, and clinically significant interventions.
