Abstract

Alzheimer’s disease is a common cause of memory loss and treatments have met with limited success.1 Some studies suggest that folic acid supplementation may improve cognitive function in Alzheimer’s patients, but the efficacy of this treatment remains uncertain.2 This experiment used a fly model to examine the effect of folic acid on memory. A climbing assay and a fast phototaxis assay were used to test cognitive function in wild-type flies in experimental flies exposed to folic acid and control flies without folic acid exposure.
