Abstract

Purpose: This study was to determine if people being perceived to look a certain way has an influence on disordered eating and exercise practices, and whether or not there is a difference between genders in regards to the questions asked. Methodology: For this study there was a 25- item questionnaire, and it was completed by Angelo State University students. There were a total of 33 participants in the study; total of 16 males and 17 females. The questions attempted to determine differences between eating and exercise behaviors in males and females. Results: 9 out of 25 questions (36%) were statistically significantly different. Conclusions: It can be concluded that women worry about their weight more than men. Women try different techniques to be able to lose weight more quickly, but they spend fewer days at the gym. It can also be concluded that more woman than men use supplements in order to lose weight.
