Abstract

The United Council of Church Women was organized in 1939 in San Angelo, TX as an interdenominational group. Originally called the Federation of Church Women, they would meet every fifth Thursday during the year and women of all churches in the city, regardless of denominational or racial lines, were invited to participate in the event. The chief purpose of the organization would be to cultivate acquaintance and friendship among the church women of San Angelo. The collection contains one box of minutes, programs, correspondence, membership and officer lists, constitution & by-laws, and newspaper clippings dating to the beginning of the organization. The remainder of the collection contains six scrapbooks of the work of the organization through the years.
