George Wesley Ricks Collection

George Wesley Ricks (1922-2019) served in the US Army during World War II from August 30, 1944 to March 14, 1946. A farmer in Cisco, Texas, he initially received a deferment because he had crops to tend to. Ricks served with the 222ns Infantry Regiment in the European-African-Middle Eastern theater. He served as a cook and was responsible for carrying 120 pounds of shells as his regiment marched across Germany and France. His regiment was also one of the first to liberate the concentration camp at Dachau. This collection includes a photo album of his service, service papers, and a booklet about the story of his regiment.
